1926 O melhor jogador de basebol da história, Babe Ruth, realiza um feito público notável. Ele consegue apanhar uma bola de basebol que é arremessada de um avião voando a 100 milhas por hora e a uma altitude de 250 pés.

Dia 23

1848 Em protesto contra a escravatura nos Estados Unidos e ao envolvimento do país na Guerra do México, o autor Henry David Thoreau recusa-se a pagar um imposto no valor de $1. Ele é preso por isto. Na noite em que ele passa na cadeia, um parente dele paga o imposto para o libertar. No dia seguinte, Thoreau é informado que o imposto havia sido pago e que ele estava livre. Thoreau protesta contra o pagamento e só sai da cadeia sob ameaça física. Esta experiência de Henry David Thoreau foi documentada e serviu como inspiração para o movimento de desobediência civil promovida por Leon Tolstoi e Mahatma Gandi.

1969 Apollo 11, a nave espacial norte-americana que havia levado os primeiros astronautas à Lua, retorna a Terra.
