Jacque on track to race Down Under
Kawasaki Racing’s Olivier Jacque should be fit for the next round of the MotoGP World Championship, to be held at Phillip Island in twelve days, after suffering a back injury last week in Qatar.
Jacque ultimately had a short-lived experience of the Losail International Circuit as he had to pull out of the Marlboro Grand Prix of Qatar after crashing in the first practice session on Thursday morning. The former 250cc World Champion, who was standing in for the injured Alex Hofmann, suffered serious back pain and returned to Europe on Saturday as the medical tests he underwent in Qatar proved inconclusive.
“After spending the whole day at the Doha hospital to undergo many tests, I went back there the next day to have an MRI as my back was still very sore,” explained Jacque. “The MRI didn't reveal anything serious. I think the lumbar vertebrae got knocked pretty hard as I fell on my back and the bike hit me. I had muscular contractions that made think that an organ was damaged.”
“Now, the pain is gradually going away and I can almost move normally. I went back to Europe on Saturday and I'm still undergoing treatment to speed up the recovery and get back to full fitness,” added the Frenchman. “I should be fully fit for the Australian Grand Prix. After that I'll have more work for Kawasaki as I should also race in Turkey the week after Phillip Island, before going to Japan to do further tests with Kawasaki at the Autopolis track in Kumamoto.”
