Beer for blood campaign is success

Local health authorities in Prague say a campaign to encourage people to give blood in return for beer, has been a success.

Officials have reportedly said bus loads of Czechs from around the country turned up to for the free beer and magazine subscription promised to donors.

Health authorities organised the campaign to coincide with the five-day St Wenceslas Beer Festival in the Czech capital.

As well as locals from Prague, donors from neighbouring provinces turned up in their busloads to take advantage of two free pints of beer and a year's subscription to a Czech beer magazine.

Organisers said they knew the promotion would appeal to their countrymen, who are the world's biggest beer drinkers.
