Olivier Jacque!

Olivier Jacque says he is looking forward to enjoying his return to MotoGP action at Motegi this weekend, without the pressure of challenging for one of the top positions. The former 250cc World Champion replaces Andrew Pitt in the Moriwaki Racing squad, continuing development of the MD211VF, and admitted he was glad to be back as the final preparations were made in the paddock today.

“It is really nice to be back, especially to be working with a team like Moriwaki,” explained Jacque. “They are a very nice team, very relaxed and I feel very at home. We had a three day test at Sepang which was difficult because the track was a bit dirty.

“The bike is really light but we need to stiffen up the chassis a little bit because it needs to be more precise. Apart from that, the Honda engine is obviously really nice, so smooth, and it’s a pleasure to ride.”

Jacque’s return to the MotoGP scene could not have been better timed, with several riders’ contracts for next season under review and the typical end of seasons negotiations and rumours rife across the paddock. The Frenchman admits that he would love to return as a full-time rider to the premier-class, but will not be putting any extra pressure on himself than is necessary.

“Of course I would love to come back, but it’s not my main aim and I’m not thinking about that this weekend. The main thing for any rider is to enjoy yourself, and I know from experience that you cannot give 100% unless you are having fun on the bike. I’ll just make sure I enjoy this weekend and then we’ll see what happens after that.”
